What are the
components of a castle?

You can you make one with materials you have at home!
How to make your own castle at home!
Follow the steps below:
Materials:
  • Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Paper
  • Cardboard Box
  • Scissors
  • Tape ​
  • Marker
  • ​Pencil
  • String
  • Ruler

Step 1:​

Lay your cardboard box upside down with the flaps folded outward. Cut 3 of the flaps off with an X-Acto knife or scissors leaving 1 flap connected on the long side of the box. 

Step 2:​

Take the flap that you cut off from the long side and cut a piece that is 7.5cm tall. Then, use the ruler and the pencil to measure and mark one 2.5cm sections across the cardboard. These will form the crenellations of the curtain wall. 

Step 3:​

Then draw a line across the cardboard that is about 2cm below the 2.5 cm measurements. 

Use the scissors to cut the crenellations using the 2.5cm marks on the cardboard (as shown). Then, fold the cardboard piece in half. On each side of the bottom of the cardboard piece, measure 2.5cm in and 2.5cm up and make a cut at each side. 

Step 4:​

Where the front flap meets the box, measure a 5cm and 9cm tall rectangle in the centre of the box. Use scissors to cut this out. 

​On the flap that is sticking out, make the same measurements so that it looks as though the drawbridge is lowered (as shown in the photos). 

Step 5:​

Use a glue gun or tape to stick the two small end flaps to the front top of the box and the longer piece to the top of the box (as shown). 
Use the tape or glue gun or tape to attach the toilet paper tubes to each of the four corners on top of the box.

Step 6:​

Make 4 cones from heavyweight paper that is about 7.5cm tall. (You can make a 3/4-circle. Bend this in half and use the tape to secure the two straight ends together. 

​Use little dots of glue or tape to secure these to the tops of the toilet paper tubes. 
​

Step 7:​

Use two pieces of string attached to both sides of the opening and the drawbridge to look like the chains used to raise and lower it. Cut four small squares from the extra cardboard and attach them with glue to cover the ends of the string.​

Step 8:​

You can cut the back out of the box if children want easier access to play in the castle.
